From 1999 the volume of organic lands in the world increased by 360%, while the number of organic products manufacturers by 1000%. These trends are not expected to decrease in the nearest future. Ukraine is already involved in the global organic production network and takes steps towards the development of this industry on the legislative level. Let’s take a look at figures in order to see where we are standing with organic agriculture in our country.

Ukraine is ranked 11th in Europe according to the volume of organic lands

Ukraine has 381 thousand hectares of organic lands occupying the 11th place in Europe according to this indicator. Though, it’s only 1% of the total volume of agricultural lands in our country. The first place is occupied by Spain, where organic agricultural lands occupy 1,97 million hectares.

Ukraine has 294 organic agricultural enterprises

426 operators of the organic market were registered this year in Ukraine, out of which 294 are agricultural enterprises.

Odessa region is the most organic one

The largest volume of certified organic lands is concentrated in Odessa (102 thousand hectares), Kherson (76 thousand hectares), Dnipropetrovsk (38 thousand hectares) and Zhytomyr (32 thousand hectares) regions, while the biggest number of enterprises is situated in Odessa region.

The majority of agricultural companies own small parcels of organic lands

The largest volume of organic lands is owned by “Arnika” – 15,8 thousand hectares, and only five companies have over 5 thousand hectares of organic lands. More information about Ukrainian organic agricultural companies you will find here.

90% of Ukrainian agricultural products are exported

Only 10% of agricultural products produced in Ukraine are sold in the internal market. Key importers are – Netherlands, Germany, and Great Britain. Key export crops are corn and wheat.
